Touch

Touch,

Have you ever placed your finger at the mouth of a sea anemone only to experience it recoil, and yet the longer you leave it there the creature begins to reach out,  become curious and receptive.  In fact it begins to devour you. Give it a little time and it becomes hard to detach. There is a natural merging, an inevitable oneness that forms.

Our bodies yearn to be caressed. Just a stroke and tension begins to dissolve. The journey from contraction to release is one we all know. Each of us have at some point experienced the thorn of a rose. Drawn in by its beauty we make ourselves vulnerable to its piercing, protective quality. It is through the healing from its wound that we embody its medicine.

In the act of being born into this world each of us experiences a trial. For some the journey is fluid , gentle and graceful and for others it is painful and traumatizing. We are given the task of showing up and by whatever means we do. From the moment we open our eyes to this world we face struggle, we face change and how we do this defines us.

In order to become a person who is able to respond to life with full presence we must first learn to treat ourselves as we would our beloved. At first a light touch, honouring the resistance as it arises, steadily maintaining our presence , gaining trust. We must become comfortable with pleasure, with self care, allowing the sensual nature of being fully in the moment to over ride any resistance , any sense of unworthiness.  We must become so comfortable with a feeling of nourishment and connectedness that our cells expect this experience. They demand to be loved and they become receptive to it.

Have you ever noticed after receiving a massage how time slows down and the atmosphere feels lighter? The colours are brighter. We feel less anxiety, more peace. In seeking out experiences of deep relaxation in the hands of some one who is there, in no other capacity than to support our release into wholeness, we begin to unwind the binds of past trauma stored in the body. Through this type of experience we retrain our bodies to expect something different. We reprogram our cells to become transmitters of deep connection and love.

It is not always necessary or possible to have another person offer this kind of support in order facilitate release in the body however when it is possible, it is of great value. What another person can offer as a witness, as a safety net, as an added source of energy , as a guide through murky waters and as a buoy to keep us from drowning in the depths of our own stories is not something we can offer ourselves. Sometimes , Divine Grace steps in and offers this support.

Human beings are individuated experiences of a collective web of consciousness, vibrations and matter. To acknowledge this is powerful. We have the capacity to moderate the quality of interaction ( of touch ) we engage the world with and this is what allows us to become deliberate representations of that collective. In other words, integrity in our contact with the world outside of ourselves is integral to creating a system of vibration that allows for healing.
