In A Nutshell

Drawing the fragments of humanity together to compose a single life requires a level of composure and acceptance that almost nullifies one’s actual experience. I consistently take a step back to get a birds eye view which will allow me some perspective on whether I am living a good life and making a positive impact on the world. Am I making the right decisions for myself, for my daughter? What are the most important aspects of my life that allow my to offer my best self to the world?

Darshan-Alexander-Photography (260 of 491)My practice. My desire and my willingness to show up on a daily basis to simply bear witness. Be it through Asana or Meditation, Pranayama or Chanting, the daily art of self nourishment or connecting deeply with others through teaching or bodywork. Regarding every action as an opportunity to practice deep embodiment and presence makes meaning of what sometimes feels like a meaningless existence.

Gratitude. I have so much to be grateful for. Please let me never forget this. Even when my prepubescent daughter becomes melodramatic and reminds me over and over again what a hard life she is having. Gratitude for living a life that many would trade their hardships for. Deepest, most sincere and humble gratitude for all the lessons and challenges as well as the obvious gifts and luxuries.

Service. By embodying the gifts and blessings of my life , I am able to then share them with others. I am this , I am that , I am all these things and I am none of them. It is time to step into our true power in order to be able to take responsibility for our role on this planet. With privilege comes great responsibility. “Do your work with the welfare of others always in mind” – Bhagavad Gita.

The details are somewhat inconsequential. At least that is what I’ve always felt, ever since I was a child. That what I chose to do with my life is less important than how I do it and while this still rings true it seems life is offering me many opportunities to practice, to be grateful and to be of service so that these are not just gross enactments of unconscious privilege but instead opportunities to refine the process. In a nutshell, what foundational pillars to I want this life to rest upon? If I have laid out the ways in which I wish to carry out my actions ( practice , gratitude and service) what are the avenues through which I chose to apply these methods.

Yoga. Practice.

Kirtan. Gratitude.

Massage. Service.
